Images created by noted photographers Leonard Frank and Otto Landauer explore the bridges that connect communities across the Lower Mainland. Shots of the Lions Gate and the Second Narrows (now called the Ironworkers Memorial) bridges highlight the extraordinary scale and aesthetic appeal of these enormous structures. As exhibit curator, Anna Wilkinson, explains,
“Immersing myself in Leonard Frank and Otto Landauer’s work helped me appreciate the social and economic impact and the beauty of Lower Mainland bridges. These bridges have had very real, concrete effects on local communities but they are also stunning examples of design, engineering, and artistry. We’re thrilled to exhibit a collection of photos that combine great documentary detail with gorgeous composition and subject matter.”
