The Jewish Museum and Archives of BC began the Southern Africa Diaspora Oral History Project in summer 2017 as part of our ongoing efforts to document the comprehensive history of Jews in BC.
Jews from Southern African countries including South Africa, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, have contributed to the BC Jewish community in countless ways over the past three decades. It is our goal to collect the memories of these community members over the coming years – both their experiences in BC and those during their time prior to arrival here.
To date, 25 interviews have been recorded. We will continue to collect additional interviews over the coming years with the intent of developing an exhibit and/or publication from the material collected.
If you would like to be interviewed, or would like to nominate an interviewee, please contact: info@jewishmuseum.ca
