Between 1845 and 1945, more than 40,000 Jews settled in China, either pursuing business opportunities or seeking safe haven from persecution. They built thriving communities of schools, synagogues, and businesses, most notably in Shanghai.
Author Daniel Kalla has written two books about Jewish Life in Shanghai and will share with us a survey of his research into this fascinating moment in history.
