The Jewish community of Portland, Oregon shares a similar history to the Jewish communities of BC. The community was founded in 1849 when German Jewish merchants arrived in Portland and opened stores to supply prospectors in the nearby gold fields. In the century and a half since, the community has grown to over 40,000 people. Today, Portland’s Jewish community is comprised of members who have immigrated from all corners of the globe.
