Historical Walking Tours
The JMABC offers a variety of guided BC Jewish heritage tours in the Vancouver area, and partners with Amber Woods for walking tours in Victoria. Tours are in urban areas, and difficulty levels vary from easy to moderate, with most locations being accessible for those with mobility challenges. In some cases, self-guided tours may be available.
Jewish Strathcona Tour
Discover the rich history of Vancouver’s early Jewish community by exploring the neighbourhood that they once called home. Meet the men and women who settled here, started businesses, and laid the foundations of a tight-knit community.

The Strathcona tour begins and ends outside of Finch’s Cafe, 501 E. Georgia (at the corner of Jackson).

Mountain View Cemetery Tour
The recently restored Jewish section of Mountain View Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 450 members of our community, including many early pioneers. Join one of our expert guides on a walk through these significant and peaceful grounds.

This tour starts at 10:30 am and begins at the Northwest corner of 37th Avenue and Fraser Street (the gates of the Jewish Cemetery).
Self-guided tours may be available.

Archives Tour
Uncover the treasures of our heritage at the BC Jewish Community Archives. Home to a vast collection of records, photos, and oral histories, this facility offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. Archivist Alysa Routtenberg highlights some of the stories that have helped to shape our community.

Jewish Victoria Tour
Walk in the footsteps of the trailblazing Jewish pioneers and early Jewish merchants who were so instrumental in shaping the history of Victoria. Led by Amber Woods, this fascinating tour winds through Old Town and includes several notable Jewish landmarks.

Tours begin at 10:30 am, outside of Congregation Emanu-El 1461.
Blanshard Street (corner of Blanshard and Pandora), and conclude at Government and Yates Street.

Victoria Jewish Cemetery Tour
The Jewish Cemetery of Victoria is the oldest non-Indigenous cemetery in continuous use in British Columbia. It contains the stories of the Island’s Jewish community, as well as the larger social history of Victoria. Led by Amber Woods, this tour will introduce you to some of the colourful characters, historical figures, and unique quirks found within its gates.
